Madison College Holds Community of Practice Convocation Meeting

Madison College held a community of practice meeting during Convocation on January 10, 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin. Key items covered in the meeting included:

  • Interest in holding the three-part contextualization training again. As a result, the first part will be held May 30-31, 2018, the second during the summer, and the third during Convocation in the fall of 2018.
  • The Madison College Community of Practice will focus on specific curriculum development outcomes. Two subcommunities will meet independently during the spring semester and potentially into the summer. One will work to review and revise contextualized materials for an Electronics Math 1 course, and possibly help develop contextualized materials for an Electronics Math 2 course. The other subcommunity will work on the Vocational Math course with the ultimate goal of creating a fully contextualized course for Construction and Remodeling program students to be implemented in Fall 2018.
  • Madison College’s Institutional Research and Effectiveness provided faculty the opportunity to review their course data and determine potential candidate courses if interested in implementing contextualization.
  • Faculty welcomed opportunities to visit classrooms that integrated contextualization in one way or another. Specific schedules were provided for those who wished to observe.
  • Faculty were invited to participate in the upcoming Contextualize to Learn cross-institutional meeting, which will be held on March 23, 2018 at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
